The Competition of

Blueprints for

A Sustainable Community

The concept of a sustainable community, as outlined in the 2030 Agenda, envisions a green, multicultural, and resilient environment—one that can adapt to crises and climate change. Building a truly sustainable community requires a balance between infrastructure development and urban management (SDG 11), the responsible use of natural resources to ensure access to clean and affordable energy (SDG 6 & 7) and equitable access to education for all (SDG 4). It must also foster inclusivity, embracing people of all ages, genders, and cultural backgrounds.

The name "Blueprints for a Sustainable Community" emphasizes the importance of planning, creativity, and collective action in building inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities. Just as architects rely on blueprints to construct strong and lasting structures, a sustainable community requires careful planning and close collaboration to ensure a high quality of life for all.

As the world turns more urban, with nearly 70% of the global population projected to reside in cities by 2050, hence, it is essential that cities are built to sustain. However, a truly sustainable city must start with strong, connected, and responsible communities. Whether in urban centers or rural areas, the foundation of a thriving community depends on quality education, gender equality, equal opportunities, safe infrastructure, and sustainable, non-polluting resources.

What is

(SDGs)?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

The 17 SDGs are integrated - they recognise that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability. Countries have committed to prioritise progress for those who are furthest behind. The SDGs are designed to end poverty, hunger, AIDS, and discrimination against women and girls.

The creativity, know-how, technology and financial resources from all of society are necessary to achieve the SDGs in every context.
